Location is used only to find bus stops and MRT stations near you, and to plan trips that start from your current position. Coordinates are sent to the BusBell server when you make those requests, never tied to a profile, and never shared with advertisers. You can decline location and use the app in search-only mode.
BusBell auto-refreshes arrivals every 10 seconds. If you see stale data: (1) check that your device has internet access, (2) pull down on the home screen to force a refresh, (3) make sure the relevant bus is in service — Singapore buses generally do not run between 00:30 and 05:30. The label "Last bus" or "—" means the last service has already passed.
When you tap the bell icon on a service, BusBell monitors that service's live ETA and rings a local notification before it reaches your stop. Reminders run on your device using the OS notification system; there is no remote push and no device token leaves the app.
Settings → Clear cache wipes downloaded master data and tiles. Settings → Clear local records wipes favorites, search history, pinned trip plans and reminders. Switching to limited mode also revokes the on-device Ed25519 key, leaving the app unable to call the API. See the data-deletion page for full steps.
BusBell targets iOS 15.6 and above and Android 7 (API 24) and above. The app is phone-first; it runs on iPad and Android tablets in compatibility mode.
Real-time bus arrivals in Singapore come from LTA DataMall; map tiles, address autocomplete and routing geometry come from OneMap and SLA datasets under the Singapore Open Data Licence v1.0. Malaysian data — bus routes, stops, timetables and live vehicle positions — comes from the official GTFS feeds on data.gov.my, published by Prasarana (Rapid Bus, Rapid Rail) and KTMB under the Malaysian Government Open Data Terms of Use 1.0. BusBell is an independent app and is not endorsed by LTA, SLA, the Singapore Government, Prasarana, KTMB or the Malaysian Government.
BusBell covers Peninsular Malaysia plus Kuching in Sarawak: Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley (Rapid KL, MRT feeder buses and the LRT/MRT/Monorail/BRT network), Penang, Johor Bahru, Melaka, Ipoh, Seremban, Kuantan, Alor Setar, Kangar, Kota Bharu and Kuala Terengganu, together with KTMB Komuter, ETS and intercity/shuttle lines. Data comes from the 16 official GTFS feeds published on data.gov.my.
BusBell uses the official Prasarana and KTMB GTFS feeds. Some express services, stage buses, and rural routes may not be included in the official feeds. We follow data.gov.my's published coverage.
The Malaysian line list and timetables include KTMB Komuter, ETS, intercity and shuttle services, so you can look up stations and first/last departure times for them. Live arrival countdowns are only available for bus services — Malaysian rail lines are shown with timetable data.
Live bus positions come from the official GTFS-Realtime feeds on data.gov.my, covering Rapid KL, MRT feeder, Penang, Kuantan and myBAS services in ten states. Where a feed does not report a vehicle, BusBell falls back to the published timetable, so a stop can still show its next scheduled departure.
