Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-09-15 · Version 1.6

This Privacy Policy describes how the BusBell mobile application ("App") collects, uses, and protects personal data in accordance with the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) and the Malaysia Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

1. Data we process

  • Device and security data: device identifiers and cryptographic keys used to authenticate API access, as described at first launch.
  • Location data: with your permission, precise location is used to sort nearby bus stops and MRT stations by distance, show your position on the map, and provide real-time arrival estimates. If you optionally enable background location, location data is used in the background only when you have set an arrival reminder — to detect when your bus is about to arrive, notify you, and refresh nearby stops. Location data is not shared with any third party. You can turn off location access anytime in App Settings.
  • Search and trip planning data: search terms, selected stops, routes, addresses, selected coordinates, local search or route history, and any pinned route itinerary used to provide search, map, and route planning features.
  • Notifications: if you allow notifications, the App may show arrival or service alerts using local notifications (sound/vibration per channel settings).
  • Technical data: IP address and similar data as needed to deliver services over the network.
  • Analytics data: with your consent, we use Firebase Analytics (a service provided by Google) to collect anonymised usage statistics such as screen views, feature interactions, and language preferences. This data does not include personally identifiable information and is used solely to improve the App experience. You may disable analytics collection at any time in Settings → Usage analytics.
  • Advertising data: We display banner ads provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect advertising identifiers and usage data to personalise and measure ads. You can limit ad tracking in your device settings. See Google's Privacy Policy.

2. Purposes

We use personal data only for providing transit information, address search, route planning, improving reliability, security, and user support, and as required by law.

3. Legal basis and consent

Where PDPA requires consent, we obtain it before or at collection. You may withdraw consent in App settings; some features will become unavailable.

If you use the App in Malaysia, your data is processed on servers located in Singapore. By using the App, you expressly consent to this cross-border transfer of your personal data under Section 129(3)(a) of the Malaysia Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

4. Retention

We retain data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law, then delete or anonymise it. Search and route planning history may be stored locally on your device so recent places and routes can be reused. A pinned route itinerary is stored locally on your device for up to 24 hours or until you unpin it; this data does not leave your device.

5. Your rights

Subject to PDPA, you may request access to or correction of your personal data, or contact us about your privacy rights using the details in the App or on our website.

6. Contact

For data protection enquiries, please email huitangyu437@gmail.com or visit the support page. To delete your data, see data deletion.

7. Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.

8. Malaysia-specific data

For users in Malaysia, BusBell uses transit data from Malaysia's official GTFS feeds on data.gov.my, provided by Prasarana (Rapid Rail / Rapid Bus) and KTMB. The Malaysian Department of Personal Data Protection (JPDP) oversees PDPA compliance; queries may be directed to the JPDP at pdp.gov.my.

Personal data of Malaysian users is processed on servers located in Singapore (cross-border consent per Section 3). Under the Malaysia PDPA 2010 (Part 7), Malaysian users have rights of access, correction, and prevention of processing. To exercise these rights, email huitangyu437@gmail.com; we aim to respond within 5 business days.
